Our Introduction to Beekeeping Course was back to a day in Brailes village hall going through some beekeeping basic theory, and a day at our training apiary, also in the lovely Warwickshire village of Brailes
The theory day covers ‘Why become a Beekeeper’; Bee Basics; Apiary location; The Beekeeping Year; What you need to buy – and don’t need to buy; Products of the Hive and ‘What could possibly go wrong’. We are lucky that so many members volunteer their time to give these sessions.
The Sunday session is at out Training Apiary in Brailes. Students are split into two groups; one does frame making (well the training apiary does need a lot of frames) whilst the other group has a hands-on session at the hives. And of course they then swap.
The Shipston Beekeepers Committee would like to thank every member who helped make the weekend a success, from David Blower MB who is our Training Coordinator and pulled the entire event together through to the speakers on Saturday, the beekeepers on Sunday, and all those who helped greet, made teas, put stands up, helped people get into bee suits and generally just helped when- and wherever needed.
